Florida's 2027 recruiting class just hit #3 in the country — and it's not slowing down. We've got a massive commitment to break down, a linebacker from a serious NFL bloodline joining the fold, a Friday Night Lights recap, and former Gator Thomas Holley sitting down to talk about his journey through one of the toughest injury stories in recent program history.
This Episode Covers:
🏈 Aaron McWilliams Commits — A top-rated specialist kicker from East Coweta, GA commits to Florida as the Gators' 24th member of the 2027 class. (His "5-star" designation is from Kohl's Specialist Camps.)
📈 Gators 2027 Class Hits #3 Nationally — 24 commits, 16 blue-chip recruits, trailing only Texas A&M and Oklahoma per the 247Sports Composite. Jon Sumrall's class is for real.
🏈 Tre Geathers Commits — 3-star linebacker Robert Geathers III — son of former Georgia/Bengals DE Robert Geathers — chooses Florida over Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina. Serious football pedigree.
🏕️ Friday Night Lights Recap — Sumrall hosted a loaded group of elite 2027 prospects in Gainesville. What we saw and who stood out.
🥎 Softball Adds Kairi Rodriguez — Graduate transfer catcher from Duke signed June 16th.
🎙️ Thomas Holley | Former Florida Gators DL | Brooklyn, NY | 2014 Signing Class
Thomas Holley arrived at Florida as one of the most recruited defensive tackles in the country — an Under Armour All-American from Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, the No. 77 overall prospect in the 2014 class. What followed was one of the most gut-wrenching injury stories in recent Gators history: two hip surgeries, a redshirt year, limited action in seven games, a 60-pound weight loss and position change to try to stay on the field — and ultimately a medical exemption in 2016. He stayed at Florida, finished his degree, and has been building something since.
What Thomas talked about:
His recruitment out of Brooklyn and what made Florida stand out
The moment he learned his playing career was over — and how he processed it
The mental side of being a highly recruited player whose body didn't cooperate
What kept him in Gainesville after football ended
How he views the current Gators program under Sumrall
What he's been building since leaving the sport
Advice for young players navigating injuries and adversity
