Barry Morphew Tried to Have Suzanne’s Remains Cremated Before Trial

Barry Morphew is headed back to trial in October for the murder of his wife, Suzanne Morphew. This is the second time he has been charged. The first case collapsed under prosecutorial misconduct so serious that the district attorney was later disbarred. But what Barry did in the gap between the two prosecutions raises a question that is hard to ignore.
He moved to Arizona. He allegedly used fake names. At a trailer park in Cave Creek, he was reportedly known as Bruce in one place and Lee in another. When a woman at a bar recognized him and called him Barry, he denied it. By then, Suzanne’s remains had already been discovered in a shallow grave, and an autopsy found restricted wildlife tranquilizer in her bone marrow. Prosecutors have alleged Barry was the only civilian in the area with access to that substance.
Then came the move that changes everything.
After a grand jury re-indicted Barry in June 2025 and he entered a second not guilty plea, he allegedly signed paperwork authorizing Suzanne’s remains to be released and cremated. Those remains were the prosecution’s most important physical evidence. Law enforcement learned what was happening and seized them one day before the cremation was scheduled. Court filings reportedly show Barry’s signature on the authorization forms.
So what does that mean? Is that the action of an innocent man trying to move on, or the action of someone trying to make sure critical evidence disappears forever? That is the question hanging over this case.
