What Scott Peterson's Sister-in-Law Has Known for 20 Years That We Don't

Janey Peterson tells anyone who will listen: “The wrong person’s in prison.” She has been saying it for more than twenty years. Her brother-in-law Scott was convicted of murdering his pregnant wife Laci on circumstantial evidence alone — no weapon, no crime scene, no eyewitnesses. And Janey has spent two decades building a factual counter-narrative so organized that the Los Angeles Innocence Project took the case in 2024.

A judge has since granted access to undisclosed evidence. DNA testing has been authorized. Scott’s original defense attorney has gone on the record saying he’d bet his life on his innocence. The California Supreme Court previously overturned the death sentence over juror misconduct.
