Our guest today is Eric Atria. Eric is a man of many talents—you may know him as the supreme bassist and showman in bands such as Morningbell, The Adult Boys Thunderband, and The Shitty Beatles (who happen to have a show coming up at The Wooly on Saturday, August 8, 2026 so mark your calendars). Eric is ambitious, he’s bold. During the pandemic he decided he’d learn Japanese woodworking, a huge endeavor--not only did he learn it, he got pretty damn good at it. He also makes mini documentaries just for fun—he made one recently about the music scene here in Gainesville in the early 2000s, which his band, Morningbell, helped build. Eric and his wife and bandmate Stacie (who will one day join us on the podcast if I have anything to say about it), are fantastic parents, always putting forth energy and enthusiasm to stoke the fires of their children’s passions, creativity, and imagination. Eric also believes in giving back to his community. For as long as I’ve known him, he’s been a public defender here in Alachua—that is, up until about 6 months ago when he announced he was running for Alachua County judge. That election is in August, so keep your eyes peeled for Eric’s name on your ballot.
Thank you so much for finding your way to be here for this moment with us today. Enjoy.
