Did Bryan Kohberger Schedule Himself Around A Camera?

Bryan Kohberger waited a year to speak about the Idaho student murders, and then chose the seventy-two hours before a Netflix documentary about the case went live. The timing is the story.

Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, whose career runs through private practice, community mental health, crisis teams, and forensic programs, take apart the question of who he was performing for.

The premiere of The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare had been public since mid-July 2026. Director Skye Borgman said the whole design of the series was to move the attention off the case and back onto the four students. Kohberger's statement went to the New York Times on the Sunday. His petition hit the Ada County docket on the Monday. The series arrived Wednesday, into a news environment where his name was everywhere again.

He also used his statement to thank the people who believe in his innocence and keep analyzing the case. That group exists. During the sentencing, Kaylee Goncalves' mother received a message from someone claiming ties to serial killers, telling her she knew Bryan was innocent, and saying they had handed her address to a would-be killer in Moscow.

Scott has spent decades around what that kind of attention does to the person receiving it, and the historical parallels are not subtle. Holmes. Lucas. Confessions that grew and shrank in exact proportion to who was watching.

The episode ends where the Goncalves family put it, on whether any of us should be covering him at all.

The conversation also looks at what the documentary was designed to do against what actually happened. Berlinger and Borgman built a series around family interviews and bodycam footage never released before, framed as the definitive account of the case. It arrived into a news cycle that was about the man again. That outcome was predictable to anybody reading a calendar.
