What Nancy Guthrie's Kidnapper REALLY Proved With That Note

Nancy Guthrie's kidnapper had every opportunity to send real proof she was alive — her voice, a photo, anything with her in it — and instead described a smartwatch on the floor and a broken floodlight. Pima County released both ransom notes in full, and this episode is a complete breakdown of what's actually in them and what the investigation has gotten wrong since. 
Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, author of The Minds of Mass Killers, goes through the first note line by line: the four-million-dollar bitcoin demand, the deadline set for Savannah Guthrie, the proof-of-presence details, a revealing slip from "we" to "me," and a line about Nancy's mother written to put the outcome squarely on the family. Then the second note: it states Nancy died shortly after she was taken. If the notes are accurate and in order, the ransom demand went out for someone who was already gone. 
Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer breaks down the investigation from the outside. Sheriff Chris Nanos told cameras Derrick Callella — the only person charged in connection with this case — received ten years. He hasn't been sentenced. The real plea agreement is five years of probation on two counts of harassment by telecommunications device. Coffindaffer explains what it means that the man running this investigation can't accurately describe his own case's only conviction, and why the FBI director and Pima County's sheriff still haven't spoken directly, reward money on the table and no named suspect.
