Towns and cities can feel strangely creepy because places that are normally filled with people, noise, and activity can become unsettling when they fall silent. Empty streets, abandoned buildings, flickering streetlights, and unfamiliar alleyways create a sense that something is wrong, even when nothing is visibly there.
Cities are also full of hidden spaces, underground tunnels, forgotten buildings, deserted apartments, and places we rarely see, which feed our imagination and make us wonder what might be lurking just beyond our view. The familiar becoming unfamiliar is perhaps what makes urban environments so effective in horror: somewhere we thought we knew suddenly feels like a place we should never have entered.
