"The Raven Scholar": Is it a Plot Twist if You Lose the Original Plot?

"The Raven Scholar" is very highly rated on book review sites, but the Busy Girls had a hard time saying why. It had an amazing world and magic system, but it was 600 pages of constantly changing plots. And not in a twisty surprise kind of way.
