Episode 363: When There’s Something Not Quite Right

Small changes to our everyday lives can be surprisingly unsettling because we rely on familiar routines to give us a sense of safety and control. When something ordinary is suddenly different, a familiar street looks slightly altered, an object is out of place, or someone behaves in a way they normally wouldn’t, it can create a nagging feeling that something is wrong.

The change itself may be harmless, but our minds instinctively search for an explanation, and when we can’t find one, uncertainty takes over. In horror, this is especially powerful because it transforms the familiar into something subtly, almost imperceptibly, strange.
