Amy and Michelle expected The Exorcist to feel dated. Instead, by the time the movie ended, neither sister wanted to be alone.

They laughed at themselves, put on a comedy, and tried to shake off the uneasy feeling the film had left behind. Then a photograph fell in the bedroom. Footsteps moved through the hallway. The television turned itself on, a cabinet opened repeatedly, and something seemed to follow them every time they moved to another room.

Amy had lived in the apartment for six months without anything unusual happening.

After that night, nothing strange ever happened there again.
