What Nolan Wells' Family Did While Sharpton Spoke

There are two timelines running through the Nolan Wells case, and they don't match up. The first belongs to the physical evidence. Nolan's phone has been with his family since July 5. On July 15, they agreed with the Jackson County DA on a joint forensic exam at a community college lab — their experts, the DA's experts, possibly the FBI. No date was ever set. A month later, the friends' attorney went on national radio accusing the family of stonewalling. The DA's office sent a 44-hour deadline to deliver the phone to her office instead, while Nolan's parents were out of state. The family called it bad faith and offered any day between August 18 and 21. That phone still hasn't been examined. The second timeline belongs to Al Sharpton. Four days after Nolan's body turned up on Horn Island, he called the case suspicious and framed it as one Black man against three young white men. He asked on camera whether the friends were racist. At Nolan's funeral, he announced a six-figure reward before a cause of death had even been determined. An independent autopsy later found no fractures, no lacerations, no deep-tissue injuries. Nolan's own Black friends who were on the island contradicted the racial framing entirely. Sharpton's attorneys now insist he never accused anyone of a crime. Read his statements in order, date by date, and decide that for yourself. Three strangers are now facing federal charges for threatening the friends. Some of those friends couldn't go back to school. All of it happened while one piece of evidence sat untouched, waiting for someone to actually look at it.
