Nick Reiner’s Record Next to Lindsay Clancy’s Changes the Whole Debate

Those are the four elements prosecutors must prove to make the lying-in-wait special circumstance stick against Nick Reiner. Each one describes a mind that is functioning, planning, and choosing — and the prosecution has seventeen years of behavioral evidence to support it. Nick went to rehab 18 times by 22. He chose homelessness over treatment. On a 2018 podcast he laughed while describing how he destroyed his parents’ guest house piece by piece on a drug binge. Sources say he bragged about what he could get away with, threatened his sister, and took his parents’ money for drugs. His parents gave him the same ultimatum for years: stop using or get out. Sources say they threatened to call the police and never did. His medication was changed weeks before the killings, and sources say doctors warned his parents the switch could make his behavior worse. The night before December 14, Nick argued with his father at a holiday party and was asked to leave. The next afternoon, Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were found stabbed to death.
