Lindsay Clancy admitted through her defense that she killed her three children — Cora, Dawson, and Callan — in their Duxbury home in January 2023. The trial was solely about whether she was criminally responsible. It ended in an eleven-to-one mistrial on September 4.
Patrick Clancy was the prosecution's first witness. He testified about the hospitalizations, the medication spiral, and the night he came home to find his children. He and Lindsay have since divorced. He has remarried and lives in New York.
While the trial was still in session, TikTok and Instagram creators were building an alternate case accusing Patrick of being the real killer. The conspiracy theories used astrology, timeline analysis from trial livestream footage, and comparisons to Chris Watts.
Patrick's attorney Howard Cooper released a statement on September 8 calling the accusations a defamation campaign, confirming law enforcement has been notified, and warning that legal consequences are coming for those responsible.
Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott breaks down how the conspiracy took root despite the defendant herself admitting through counsel what happened, what makes a grieving father's grief look suspicious to strangers, and whether sustained false accusation causes damage that legal action can't reverse.
