Lindsay Clancy's Holdout Left WHAT on the Table?!

The Lindsay Clancy mistrial left the murder charges unresolved, but Kevin Reddington says the jury room was far from evenly divided. According to Clancy's defense attorney, eleven jurors were ready to acquit on criminal-responsibility grounds and one juror would not join them.
That reported split followed more than 38 hours of deliberations across seven days. The foreperson raised a dispute over whether the holdout was applying reasonable doubt, while Judge William Sullivan concluded he did not have a basis to remove the juror or press the inquiry further. The defense then sought emergency relief from the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, and that request was denied before Sullivan formally declared the mistrial.
The fight shifted immediately to what happens next. Reddington said he would ask Sullivan to reconsider a required finding of not guilty, which would end the prosecution without another jury if the judge granted it. He also signaled that he wanted a fast ruling and a fast return to jury selection if the motion failed. Sullivan chose a slower schedule and set September 29, 2026, for argument, status, and possible trial assignment.
Tony Brueski is joined by criminal defense attorney Bob Motta to test what the 11-1 claim really means for both sides. Bob looks at the leverage prosecutors have after a near-acquittal, the limits on what anyone can infer from a deadlocked panel, and the strategic risk of asking twelve new jurors to decide the same insanity-defense dispute.
District Attorney Timothy Cruz had not announced a retrial decision when the first trial ended. Patrick Clancy's attorney said another trial would force Patrick and his family to relive a tragedy they can never close. That leaves one hard question hanging over the next court date: what would the Commonwealth have to believe it can do differently before asking everyone to go through the case again?
