Anna Kepner Case: Shauntel Went to Court for WHAT?!

Anna Kepner’s cruise ship murder case has another court record pulling the Hudson and Kepner families back into the same story. Shauntel Hudson is seeking child support from her ex-husband, Thomas Hudson, as their son Timothy Hudson remains in federal custody awaiting trial. 

Shauntel alleges Thomas missed multiple months of court-ordered support, and her filing says the original amount was $2,129 a month for three children. The amount later fell to $1,092 as fewer children remained covered. She also wants the court to review the amount because she believes Thomas earns substantially more. Thomas disputes both points, and the judge has not ruled. 

A separate federal filing shows why the family conflict matters to Timothy’s defense team. His lawyers told Judge Beth Bloom that limited access to certain relatives has made their investigation harder. Because Timothy was 16 when Anna died, the defense is also preparing for a Miller hearing, where a judge considers a juvenile defendant’s upbringing and other personal history before life without parole can be imposed. 

Bloom granted the defense request to delay trial after prosecutors did not oppose it. The trial is set to begin November 2, 2026, with October 23 as the deadline for any plea agreement. Timothy has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and a second serious federal charge tied to Anna’s death aboard the Carnival Horizon. 

The child-support petition is separate from the criminal charges. It documents another fight among the people whose history and cooperation may matter to the defense. The next federal deadline will test whether Timothy’s lawyers can complete that family investigation before they have to choose between a plea resolution and trial.
