Donna Adelson Wanted Wendi to Use WHAT Against Dan?!

The Donna Adelson case contains a remarkable written record of how she inserted herself into Wendi Adelson’s fight with Dan Markel. After the court rejected Wendi’s relocation request, Wendi testified that Donna proposed using the boys’ religion as leverage, dressing them in Hitler Youth uniforms, and offering Markel $1 million to allow the children to move to South Florida. 

Those ideas were presented at Donna’s 2025 murder trial alongside testimony about her broader role in the family. Wendi told the jury that Donna “micromanaged my life.” Robert Adelson said his mother was controlling, had strong ideas about how her children should live, and “ran the show.” His testimony also described Charlie as more dependent on Donna than the other siblings. 

That dependence did not disappear when Charlie became a successful adult. Jail call records showed 86 calls to Donna’s number during the week after Charlie’s 2023 conviction, totaling 2,118 minutes. Financial investigator Mary Hull testified that Donna managed details such as Charlie’s hotels, flights, and bills. 

Katherine Magbanua added another account of the mother-son relationship. She testified that Charlie would step away to call Donna during discussions about the murder arrangement and return afterward. Magbanua also testified that Charlie told her Donna had washed damp cash. Trial evidence showed Magbanua received 44 checks from the family dental practice, and Donna had signing authority on those checks. Donna’s defense argued she acted at Charlie’s direction and disputed the state’s claim that the payments tied her to the murder plot.
 
Donna was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation in the murder-for-hire killing of Markel and sentenced to life in prison. Her direct appeal remains pending. The First District Court of Appeal accepted her amended initial brief on September 8, 2026, and ordered the state to file its answer within 30 days.
