JP Miller Did WHAT as Mica’s Law Stalled?!

Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott is at the center of this episode because the story is bigger than a federal indictment. She examines the pattern Mica Miller’s family says she documented herself: medication allegedly controlled by someone else, unwanted injections, sleep deprivation and repeated police reports. Her family says the systems around her never saw the whole picture at once. 

That pattern is why Mica’s family has backed a South Carolina coercive-control bill known as Mica’s Law. The latest proposal, SB 702, sought to make coercive control unlawful and expand what courts and police can recognize inside an intimate relationship. It stalled during the 2026 legislative session and has not become law. Scott explains why that matters: a person can experience domination as one continuous reality while the legal system keeps sorting it into disconnected incidents.
 
JP Miller now faces federal cyberstalking and false-statement charges tied to alleged conduct from November 2022 through Mica’s death on April 27, 2024. Prosecutors allege unwanted contact, tracking devices, interference with her finances and daily activities, tire damage and an intimate image posted without consent. He has pleaded not guilty and has not been charged in connection with her death. His federal case is set for the October 2026 trial term. 

While Mica’s family pushed for a new law, JP moved into a new marriage. He married Suzie Skinner in June 2025. Suzie’s former husband, Chris Skinner, an Army veteran who became quadriplegic after a vehicle crash, died in a pool in September 2021. The death was ruled accidental. His family has raised questions publicly, and the matter has reportedly been revisited. No one has been charged in his death. 

Netflix interviewees have alleged JP and Suzie were involved before Mica died. JP denies that and has said they began dating later. Scott’s lane is the behavior around that transition: how alleged controllers can reframe the past, build a new public identity and leave the people around them arguing over what the previous relationship actually was.
