Kohberger's Prosecutor Admits THIS About the Photo Leak

Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson called the alleged leak of unredacted Kohberger crime-scene photographs "unconscionable." Then he said something more damaging than any photograph: he doesn't know if his office can take legal action against whoever did it.

A YouTube creator with nine thousand subscribers had claimed on camera that she possessed unredacted images of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin — wounds visible, no redaction — and told her audience to stay tuned. On September 15th, Thompson's office joined Moscow Police and Idaho State Police in a public warning. But the warning carried no teeth.

Senate Bill 1250 passed unanimously in March 2026 and took effect July 1st. It exempts death-investigation photographs from public-records disclosure. It tells government agencies what they can't release. It does not say what happens to a private person who already has the file and hits upload. The front door got a lock. The side door is a hallway of copied hard drives.

This episode traces the two-year failure chain: a Dateline leak in May 2025 still under investigation with no public result, families suing over sloppy redactions, a judge ordering bodies blacked out, Idaho State Police botching a release of nearly three thousand images, and a corrections employee leaking Kohberger prison video with no criminal charges filed. The pattern is identical each time: leak, investigate, nobody gets charged, move on.

Thompson's admission isn't weakness. It's the diagnosis. The system was built to copy evidence, not to protect the dead from the internet.
