Caleb Flynn Court Coverage Day 1: What Did the Body Cam Miss?

The first officer inside the Flynn home testified that Caleb Flynn was not treated as a suspect when police arrived. But the jury also learned that the officer’s body camera did not capture his first conversation with Caleb.

The prosecution began its witness testimony with Beth Hull, director of the Miami County Communication Center. Hull testified that she retrieved the records and audio surrounding Caleb’s February 16, 2026 call for help.

The records placed that 911 call at approximately 2:31 a.m., and prosecutors played the recording for jurors.

Sgt. Corey Rismiller of Tipp City Police testified that he arrived about five minutes later, at 2:36 a.m. Rismiller said he searched the house for anyone else and found no one. He then entered the bedroom where Ashley Flynn was located.

Rismiller testified that Ashley had significant trauma around her head and was deceased. He secured the house, advised detectives of the death, and EMS personnel then entered the scene.

He also testified that Caleb was never treated as a suspect by him during that initial response.

Cross-examination turned to Rismiller’s experience and his body camera. He testified that he had handled one prior homicide in Tipp City, in the early 2000s.

More importantly for the record jurors now have, Rismiller said his body camera did not automatically activate. He manually turned it on after realizing it was not recording. His first conversation with Caleb therefore exists only through testimony, not body-camera footage.

That missing recording does not establish what was said in either direction. It does mean jurors will have to evaluate Rismiller’s account without video of that initial exchange.

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors allege he killed his wife, Ashley Flynn, and staged the scene as a burglary. His defense maintains that Ashley was killed during an actual home invasion.
