In this episode of Do Good Voices, host Meredith Pericles sits down with Abby Albom of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Tampa Bay Chapter for an honest and deeply personal conversation about suicide prevention, mental health, and the power of connection.

Abby shares her personal experience with suicide loss and explains how those experiences led her to become an advocate for prevention and awareness. Together, Meredith and Abby explore why suicide can be difficult to talk about, how stigma can prevent people from seeking help, and why someone who is struggling may not always show obvious warning signs.

Listeners will learn how to recognize potential signs of concern, how to ask someone directly if they are struggling, and what to do when someone says they need help. Abby also explains AFSP's Talk Saves Lives program and how the Tampa Bay chapter works with schools, colleges, workplaces, nonprofits, and community organizations to provide suicide-prevention education.
The conversation also highlights ways the community can get involved—from volunteering and fundraising to participating in AFSP's Out of the Darkness Walks and supporting those who have experienced suicide loss.

Most importantly, Abby reminds us that mental health struggles don't always have a visible appearance, and that kindness, compassion, and simply being willing to start a conversation can make a difference.
