Caleb Flynn Court Coverage Day 2: Hammond Says Break-In Scene Looked WHAT?!

David Hammond spent the opening stretch of Day 2 showing jurors what he documented around the Flynn home, and the garage door became a central point. Hammond is a special agent with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. He testified about photographing the home where Ashley Flynn, 37, Caleb Flynn's wife and the victim in the murder case, was found dead. 

Hammond said he photographed the house methodically, including windows, doors and the routes someone could have used to enter or leave. The garage door handle was broken. But Hammond testified that the soft wood around the handle had no marks he would expect if someone had been working that handle from the outside. He also observed a refrigerator against the door. 

The rest of the door did not show the same kind of damage. Hammond said the deadbolt was intact and the frame was not damaged. He told jurors the scene did not look right to him and said the damage was inconsistent with burglaries he had handled as an investigator. Aside from the handle itself, Hammond testified that he found no sign the garage door had been forced open. 

That testimony goes directly to the competing versions of Ashley Flynn's death. The defense says she was killed during a home-invasion burglary and argues investigators rushed to judgment. Prosecutors allege Caleb Flynn, 40, staged the home to look like a burglary. Caleb has pleaded not guilty to all 11 counts, including aggravated murder. 

For jurors, this part of Hammond's testimony turns on the difference between something being damaged and evidence that it was actually forced. The state is asking them to examine the full doorway, not simply the broken handle, when they decide whether the physical scene supports the claimed break-in.
