Caleb Flynn Court Coverage Day 2: Hammond Believed the Scene Was WHAT?!

David Hammond's testimony after the Day 2 mid-morning break gave prosecutors the moment they had been building toward through his scene documentation. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation special agent identified bullet fragments collected from Ashley Flynn, Caleb Flynn's wife and the murder victim, along with fragments recovered elsewhere at the scene. 

Hammond also discussed latent prints investigators collected inside the home. His testimony established that the evidence was gathered, but the presence of latent prints by itself does not identify who left them or what role they may have in the case. Those questions depend on the analysis presented to jurors. 

Caleb Flynn, 40, has pleaded not guilty to all 11 charges against him, including aggravated murder. Prosecutors allege Caleb killed Ashley and deliberately arranged the home to look like a burglary. The defense says Ashley was killed by a home intruder and that investigators worked backward after deciding Caleb was their suspect. 

Prosecutors eventually asked Hammond for his investigative conclusion. Hammond testified that he believed Ashley's death was a homicide and the scene had been staged as a burglary. The point matters because it puts a named investigator directly behind the prosecution's staging theory, while still leaving jurors responsible for deciding whether the evidence supports his opinion. 

Hammond's conclusion did not arrive in isolation. Earlier in his testimony, he said the garage-door damage was inconsistent with burglaries he had worked and that he found no signs the door had actually been forced open. The post-break evidence added bullet fragments and latent prints to the record before he gave the jury his overall read of the scene. 

Prosecutors say the physical scene was made to tell a false burglary story, while the defense says the burglary was real. Hammond has now told jurors which explanation he reached as an investigator.
