Caleb Flynn Trial Day 3: Ashley’s Father Googled WHAT About Caleb?

Todd Smith, father of murder victim Ashley Flynn, testified about Caleb Flynn’s finances, his future inside the family business, and the moment he began wondering whether his son-in-law could have been responsible for Ashley’s death.

Smith testified that Caleb earned $195,000 from the family company in 2025, plus a $10,000 tax-free medical reimbursement. Smith planned to retire and split the company equally between daughters Ashley and Kayla, and he said Caleb’s income could have increased as sales grew. The Smiths also provided the Flynns additional money through what the family called the “GGFM fund,” meant for vacations and other family experiences.

Smith said Ashley never spoke badly about Caleb. After Ashley was killed, however, he testified that he thought the situation “didn’t look good” for Caleb and searched online, “Can a Christian man snap and kill his wife?” His wife asked him not to go there.

Tipp City Police Captain Tony Smith testified about the investigation itself. He said he brought the FBI into the case early, subpoenaed Flynn accounts at Allied Bank and Citibank, collected DNA from one of the children, and took custody of a laptop Todd Smith provided from the Flynn home.

Captain Smith also testified that investigators received numerous tips that were passed to the FBI, but none panned out. On cross-examination, he said police collected items from Alleigha Botner’s church office and that he was informed Botner’s laptop and cell phone had been lost during a January 2026 trip.

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated murder in Ashley Flynn’s death.
