Protecting dogs from fleas, ticks and common infectious diseases is important year-round, not just during warmer months.

Merck Animal Health says fleas and ticks can transmit diseases that may put both pets and people at risk, making ongoing prevention an important part of routine veterinary care. 

For flea and tick protection, pet parents have several options to discuss with their veterinarian. Bravecto Quantum is an in-clinic injection that provides protection against fleas and most ticks for up to 12 months, while Bravecto Chews can be given at home and provide extended protection for up to 12 weeks. 

Merck Animal Health also supports animal welfare through Bravecto CARES, a program benefiting organizations including The Street Dog Coalition, which provides free veterinary care to pets of people experiencing homelessness, and NEADS, which provides service dogs to individuals with disabilities. 

For dogs that frequently visit dog parks, boarding facilities or kennels, another consideration is protection against canine cough. 

Nobivac Intra-Trac Oral BbPi is an oral vaccine designed to protect against Bordetella bronchiseptica and canine parainfluenza virus, two common causes of canine cough. Fall is also a good reminder to make sure pets are up to date on medications, vaccines and microchip information.
