Caleb Flynn Trial Day 7: Ashley’s iPhone Notes Said WHAT?

Cross-examination of Ohio BCI criminal intelligence analyst Samantha Reeb shifted attention away from Caleb Flynn’s messages and onto information recovered from Ashley Flynn’s own phone.

Reeb testified that she created timelines using Flynn’s police interviews, other investigative information, and data recovered from his iPhone. Prosecutors have used that digital work to organize the enormous volume of communications surrounding the case.

The defense used cross-examination to widen that picture.

Reeb testified about notes found on Ashley’s iPhone, including one indicating that Ashley was experiencing difficulty in her marriage to Caleb.

Defense counsel also questioned Reeb about Alleigha Botner. Specifically, the attorney asked about messages from Botner expressing hatred toward Ashley or wanting Ashley dead. The testimony described here does not establish Reeb’s answer to those questions, but the line of questioning put Botner’s own communications before the jury rather than focusing exclusively on Flynn’s.

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to charges in the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn. Prosecutors allege he killed Ashley and staged the scene to resemble a home-invasion burglary. His defense maintains Ashley was killed by an intruder and investigators focused on Caleb too quickly.

Reeb’s direct testimony gave jurors a prosecution-built digital timeline. Cross-examination is testing what else existed inside that same digital record.
