A median Greenville home payment has roughly doubled since 2021, while moving from a starter home to a modest step-up home can mean nearly tripling the payment. That lock-in effect is keeping owners from moving, giving new construction an advantage, and creating a market where affordability hurts without necessarily causing a price crash.
