Did We Really Need a Whole Story about "The Other Bennet Sister"?

Once again, television has us reading a book before we watch. This time, it's Pride and Prejudice from Mary's POV and then beyond to her own story. But it's quite literally Pride and Prejudice retold and then a whole other story. Is Mary really worth that many pages?
