The historic Manhattan Casino (642 22nd Street S., St. Petersburg) officially reopened on Saturday, September 19, 2026, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community rededication.
Key Highlights of the Renovation & Reopening
$4.8 Million Transformation: Following a four-year, nearly $5 million restoration led by the City of St. Petersburg and general contractor Ajax Building Company, the 101-year-old landmark underwent extensive structural repairs, HVAC system replacements, and layout modernizations while preserving its rich heritage.
New Operating Model: Shifting away from past private restaurant/food-hall models, Mayor Ken Welch and city leaders designated the 12,000-square-foot building as a city-run, rentable community event venue. Nonprofits and local community groups receive discounted rental rates.

First Floor: Redesigned lobby/foyer, a green room, conference room, bar area, downsized commercial kitchen, and 2,234 square feet of event space.
Second Floor: Features the restored Jordan Ballroom, offering over 4,100 square feet of grand event space for concerts, proms, conferences, and celebrations.
Community Artwork & Dedication: The opening featured a rededication ceremony with live music, a poetry reading by St. Pete Poet Laureate Denzel Johnson-Green, and the unveiling of a new exterior mural by local artist Egypt Hagan.
Originally built in 1925 by pioneering Black businessman Elder Jordan Sr., the venue was the crown jewel of The Deuces and hosted legendary acts like Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Ray Charles. Its rebirth marks a major milestone in preserving South St. Pete's historic Black heritage.
