• Cherokee County is listed in the Hall of Shame by the Voter Integrity Project for the numbers of deceased voters on voter rolls. However, the Cherokee County Board of Elections says it cannot just remove people from the voting rolls without immediate family confirming a voter has died. • The annual Big Sweep of Hiwassee Lake is planned for Saturday, Sept. 29. Volunteers are needed to clean up the area. • Bear Paw was once a vibrant mountain vacation destination for millionaires. • In Sports, the Murphy Bulldogs pick up their third win of the season by downing Smoky Mountain. The Dogs begin Smoky Mountain Conference play Friday at Rosman.
