Author Will Self on the special relationship he has with his recurring shrink character Dr Zack Busner. Busner appears again in Self’s new novel, the 2012 Booker Prize-shortlisted Umbrella. In Umbrella, Self uses stream of consciousness prose, defying the conventional structure of a novel and explores the idea of mental illness in an attempt to answer the question What is madness?
