Response to @SabrinaMcKiernan on Zoom v Olympus & Binaural mics.
Response to a couple of questions Sabrina has on recording devices.
OH, that's very good news about the Zoom. Thanks for letting me know. I've used my friend's Zoom, but she didn't have it set to beep. Perhaps she didn't know she could; she's blind as well, and the settings are completely inaccessible to a blind person. But it's good to know that the Zoom will beep, if people can just get it set up to do so. The only reason I bought my Olympus LS-14 was that I didn't think I'd be able to use a Zoom. Guess I was wrong. ☺ Oh well, I still love my LS-14. ☺
@Gwenllian .. Gwen, you can set my Zoom h2n to emit audible beeps at the start of recordings, plus you can monitor the recordings, if practical. Have to agree though that the Olympus models are far better for accessibility :) I wasn't sure if they accepted inputs from other devices - thanks for clarifying ;-)
I've used a Zoom before, and I don't deny that they are excellent recording devices, but the problem with them is that they are not very user-friendly for totally blind folk. It's hard for us to knoww when they are recording, because they don't beep or give any indication. All that happens is that a light flashes on. I would highly recommend the Olympus LS-14. It's very accessible inasmuch as it has voice guidance for every function except the tuner, and it does take binaural mics. I don't use any because I just can't afford them right now, but the recorder's own mics, both the stereo ones and the centre omnidirectional mic, are very good. The only reason mine doesn't sound as good as it should is that I've banged it around a wee bit and dropped it once on a hard floor. ☺
