Honestly, dude, I understand your position, but this IS taking it a bit far. A big bold message at the top of the page on every page is enough. People have been trained to react to that pop-down bar that you've emulated and when they find out it's not from Microsoft, they'll be mighty pissed. They won't be pissed at you, but at the people owning the website. You're creating negative reactions and most non-techy users I know will respond negatively, probably using the words "Fuck you" somewhere in there. Seriously.
And you're entitled to your opinion. It's just that plenty of people will think it's a good idea when it's not. By all means display a message. Just don't make it look like a system message. That's the same tactics that scummy spammers and malware pedlars use.
