Richard Nieuwenhuizen loved nothing more than to watch his son play football. So much so that he volunteered to be a linesman for the youth team he played for. Like many officials he probably expected some back chat from the players, but never that it would cost him his life

The 41 year old was attacked after the final whistle in a game between two junior teams near Amsterdam. The scale of violence shocked the world of football and beyond. In June a Dutch court convicted six amateur footballers and the father of one of the players of his manslaughter. It prompted much soul searching in the Netherlands. We discussed the issue with BBC's Dutch correspondent Anna Hollihan, amateur referee Hubbs Bellemakers and first broadcaster Humberto Tan
