The BBC at 90 - Nottinghamshire remembers

As the BBC marks its 90th birthday, here's a local perspective on broadcasting from Nottingham.

The BBC's early strategy was based on a network of local stations, with Nottingham being added to the map on Tuesday September 16th, 1924.

The station broadcast from Bridlesmith Gate in the City, on 920 kHz medium wave, with its aerial dangling from a chimney on Noel Street. It launched with a live outside broadcast from the Albert Hall and the RAF band. The station only survived for just over 4 years.

We had to wait for nearly 40 years until the arrival of BBC Radio Nottingham!

Enjoy this nostalgic review from Kevin Stanley, as heard on Andy Whittaker's Breakfast Show Wednesday 14th November 2012.
