Councillor faces calls to resign after saying disabled children should be "put down"

A Cornwall councillor is facing calls to quit after telling members of a charity that disabled children "should be put down" because they cost the council too much money.

But Collin Brewer who has since apologised says he won't be resigning over his remarks which he made to Disability Cornwall at an event organised by the local authority in October 2011.

Following an investigation by the council's independent standards committee Mr Brewer was ordered to write a formal apology to Disability Cornwall, which he did, but the charity says he was in breach of the council's code of conduct and should lose his job.
