Private Brett Evans (24) from Sedgley, Wolverhampton, has recently deployed to Camp Bastion in Helmand Province as the Health Care Assistant within the modern Role 3 military hospital. He is normally based at the Ministry of Defence Hospital, Portsmouth, but volunteered to serve on frontline duty during this critical period of transition to Afghan authority.

Private Evans is getting used to working in a close knit joint team of UK and US military nursing specialists on a 40 bed ward that provides care for all UK, ISAF and Afghan forces as well as the locally employed civilians and contract workers. He deployed to Afghanistan in mid April and is just starting to settle in to life on camp.

For British Forces serving in Helmand the UK Medical Group delivers full spectrum medical care support from the point of injury through hospital treatment to evacuation back to the UK.

An avid Wolves football fan, Private Evans misses his parents, Jackie and Jonathan Evans, and his little sister Amy who is currently studying at college in Dudley.

The current UK Med Gp deployed on Operation Herrick is based around 5 Medical Regiment providing the pre-hospital emergency treatment, the deployed ambulance service and primary health care, which is a deployed GPs surgery. 33 Field Hospital provides the core staff responsible for the deployed hospital care of the troops in Afghanistan.
