Jun 07, 2013, 11:45 AM

Finalists in the 2013 International Ashden Awards are working in developing countries around the world, harnessing business methods to get reliable, clean energy to where it is needed most.

A range of products and approaches – from simple solar lanterns to carbon finance instruments – are changing lives while reducing strain on the environment.

For the second in our series of podcasts about the 2013 Ashden Awards, we speak to some of the businesses and programmes that have been selected as finalists in the International category:

  • Pippa Palmer speaks to us about how SolarAid has overcome the challenges of distributing solar power to remote communities in East Africa

  • Evan Haigler of non-profit organisation Impact Carbon explains how carbon finance is helping catalyse the growth of the East African stove market

  • And Teddy Kinyanjui, Sustainability Director of Cookswell Jikos lays out company’s seed-to-ash vision for cleaner cookstoves.

Watch the Ashden Awards Ceremony on green.tv from 7pm BST on Thursday 20 June.
