On BBC WM we're marking National Transplant Week.
The West Midlands is home to several centres of excellence for organ transplants, including Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Last month our reporter EMMA THOMAS had the opportunity to witness a liver transplant at the centre.
The patient was an eight-year-old boy from Wales, called Amman, who suffers from autoimmune hepatitis.
