Paul Martin's Business Update - October 28th

The Iron Triangle – a region in the central part of the province, in the Humboldt region, that is home to an inordinate number of manufacturers – showed its prowess at the annual ABEX Awards over the weekend, an event that attracted nearly 800 people.

The awards are presented by the provincial Chamber of Commerce to recognize excellence in the commercial sector, culminating with the naming of a business of the year. But, for the first time, that particular category had a tie so there are two businesses of the year.

One is Diamonds of Detroit, a high profile jeweler in Humboldt. That company also walked away with another award in the service category. Joining it as Business of the Year was Alliance energy, the 100-year-old contracting firm that was also recognized for its community involvement.

In exporting, two firms from Englefeld, also in the Iron Triangle, grabbed half the finalist positions but it was Humboldt businesses that shone this year Prairie’s Edge Development taking the marketing award alongside the two that went to Diamonds of Detroit.
