The Advice By Sir Walter Raleigh
Share
There is nobody in the history of Britain who IO admire more than Sir Walter Raleigh explorer, Courtier toElizabeth the Virgin Queen (who was most probably far from being a virgin) soldier, sailor, teacher, historian and poet, and for 13 years of his later life a prisoner in the Blopody Tower of The Tower of London. By the time of his execution a broken man who had lost everything his health, his only son and the favour of King James. With his head on the executioners block he is reported to have uttered "Cures all Ills" for indeed the executioners Axe was certainly an end to all of lifes mortal pains and struggles. Raleigh came from from Devon from a gentlemans farming family,He was as his many portraits testify a handsome man and was about 6 feet tall so very tall for his era,He spoke with a broad west of England Devonian accent and to really get the meaning of the 30 or so poems attributed to him and to understand this pragmatic seafaring mans perspective you need to hear his poetry in an accent at least similar to how he may have sounded.
I hope you may enjoyn my attempt at reciting this wonderfull wisdom filled poem by this very great man who despite falling out with many of his circle during his lifetime remained a hero to the ordinary English people during his lifetime and after his death.
