Below is a text transcript of the performance.

00:00-00:47 Emily Logan: In relation to our tenth anniversary, most of the work that we have been doing with children and young people is a very very significant digital project called It's Your Right, and what we did was we looked around the country and we asked children and young people to share their views and in their own voices about their experience of children’s rights, and out of the blue, and what’s really lovely about being an Ombudsman for Children is so many uplifting thing happen. This was one of those uplifting moments when we had two young girls, Carla and Ellen, who sent, of their own volition, sent into us a song that they have written about children’s rights and about the protection of children’s rights. And I’m going to ask Ellen and Carla to sing for us, to remind us that young people can contribute in very serious and very responsible ways. 00:47- 04:33 (Background Noise)

Song: ‘Shield’

Lyrics Verse 1: Dry your eyes my friend The danger's passed you're safe and sound There's only so long you can build it up, before the walls fall down Chorus: so let me be your shield I can be your armour Nothing more can hurt you now as long as I am here Verse 2: So listen to my words keep spirits high and demons low I am here and I will always be when you say we go I know we'll win this war so have no fear and have no doubt And if you hear the voices let me know I'll drown them out Chorus: So let me be your shield I can be your armour Nothing more can hurt you now as long as I am here Bridge: So throw away your white flag and give up on looking back 'cos tomorrow is all thats in my mind The sun is out the skies are clear Full of hope and rid of fear from inside Chorus: So let me be your shield I can be your armour Nothing more can hurt you now as long as I am here (©EllenandCarla2014) 04:35 Applause and Cheers from Audience Fade out 04:50 END
