Writing Rights: Robyn Gill (15) - You

Jun 03, 2014, 01:01 PM

After discussing children's rights at the first of two Fighting Words workshops, Robyn was inspired with the idea for her piece on the bus ride home. She began thinking about children's rights and the one right that stood out to her - All children are equal. Article 2 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the child states that: All children have these rights, no matter who they are, where they live, what their parents do, what language they speak, what their religion is, whether they are a boy or girl, what their culture is, whether they have a disability, whether they are rich or poor. No child should be treated unfairly on any basis.

This was the basis for Robyn's poem.

Below is a transcript of what Robyn had to say.

0:00 (Music) 0:09 My name is Robyn Gill and I'm 15. 0:13 I wrote this piece, It's a poem, it’s more of a sentence as such but it’s kind of about one of the most important rights is that it’s everyone is equal and everyone deserves equal rights and it’s about that, that no one should be discriminated against for anything really, any part of them. 0:35 You You are you, All of the different things, None of them define you, All of them combine to make you, You.
