The #OnThisDay take on the anniversary of Ice cream being served to US President George Washington during a dinner party on this day in 1789. Mrs Elizabeth Hamilton, wife of first Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton, was the first to serve ice cream to former General Washington during the dinner at the White House. Some sources suggest that Washington was greatly upset by the dessert, due to the cold on his by then toothless gums!
