Week 4 Boo: Meet the Authors

Jun 28, 2014, 09:11 AM

Until now, you’ve been commenting on my boos. This time, I’d like you to create your own boo on your wall. I’d like you to tell us about the Author that you’ve been researching. So, this boo has two parts. First, you’ll post a biography of your author. Then, for the second part, I’d like you to listen to someone else’s biography and leave a comment.

Okay, so the first thing you need to do is decide what you want to tell us about your author. Remember, you only have 10 minutes, so choose about 8-10 things you’d like to tell us. It’s a good idea to write out a little script of the points you want to make.

Second, go to your page on the Audioboo site and record the boo with the 8-10 things you wanted to share. You might begin like this: Hi, My name is Jane Ordinary and I’d like to tell you about Timothy McCann. Then, provide the facts.

After you pause your recording, you’ll see a green “Happy? Add a Title” button on the bottom right side of the record screen. Click it to open a new window.

Here is where you’ll add the finishing touches:

a) In the title window, type your author’s name.

b) In the Description window, paste your script. Make sure that your titles are punctuated. USE AN ASTERISK BEFORE AND AFTER THE TITLE TO INDICATE ITALICS. An example would be The Norton Anthology of African American Literature.

c) In the category section, choose Education.

BEFORE YOU CLICK PUBLISH, choose “2. Image” on the left side menu. Then, upload a photograph of your author.

Lastly, click on the green “Publish” button.

As you know, after you record your boo, it’ll take a few moments for it to upload to your page. Give it a few minutes and then click “here” in the sentence that says you will see your boo here. Or, from the Audioboo home page, you can look under “Activity.”

If you need to edit your boo, click the name of your boo and when the window opens, click the “Edit” button in the top left corner.

Finally, when you’re satisfied with your boo, come back here to my wall and type a one sentence comment telling people to go to your wall to read about your author. For example, you might type: Click my screen name to learn about Timothy McCann.

Now, that’s just the first part. For the last part, I’d like you to go to a classmate’s wall, listen to the author biography, and leave a comment. Your comment should either ask a question that you think was unanswered in the biography, or it should

Scoring: You earn up to 8 pts for the biography and then up to 2 more points for the comment on a classmate’s page.
