(Broadcast on BBC Radio Stoke, August 2014)

The world's largest offshore wind farm is right here in the UK, just off the coastline in the Thames Estuary.

If you've seen photographs of it you may have a sense of scale of just how enormous it is -- with blades wide enough for double-decker buses to drive down.

What you might not know is that parts of the wind farm are actually built here in Staffordshire.

The manufacturing firm in Hixon which makes the metal cases has secured eight million pounds worth of new contracts -- securing more jobs within its workforce of 170.

BBC Radio Stoke's Emma Thomas has been along to Mec Com's factory to meet the Managing Director Richard Bunce.
