Referee Tomás Connolly has defended his decision to call off the Dublin derby between Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers.

He inspected the pitch and deemed it unplayable due to repair work that had been carried out inappropriately.

The ref made the decision less than 45 minutes before the game, he told reporters player safety was paramount.
