RSA Weekly Stats 1st October 2014

The year is almost over. And each week we’ve heard the weekly road safety numbers. We’ve heard the numbers of deaths on the road each week. But these numbers are real people. And the stories only begin with these stats. Each number is a family that’s had to rebuild. A community that’s had to come together. Schools, workplaces, churches, friends. Each number involves paramedics, members of the fire brigade, gardai, nurses, people to clean the road after the crash has happened. And then there are the unreported stories. Each weekly stat masks another tragedy – the number of seriously injured on our roads. People who may never be able to use their bodies in the same ways again. Or whose brains are damaged beyond recognition.
