The original manuscript of Don McLean's 1971 hit American Pie has sold for $1.2m at auction in New York. The singer hinted back in February that the 16 page document would reveal the song's lyrical meaning, which has always been a mystery. Currency trader and ardent collector of rock memorabilia, Peter Ellis told us he was surprised the manuscript fetched such a high price. #americanpie
