My Week in a Song for Week #21 of 2015 ~ It Had to Be You

May 30, 2015, 09:38 PM

IT HAD TO BE YOU words by Gus Kahn and music by Isham Jones.

DEDICATED TO MY MOM.

My mother felt so close while I was learning the chords to this tune on my ukulele.

I've known and sung this song much of my life but never have the consonants become "Some MOTHERS I've seen…" rather than "Some OTHERS" until they did recently, and now I can't ever think of the lyrics any other way.

"Some Mothers I've seen Might never be mean Might never be cross Or try to be boss But they wouldn't do

For nobody else gave me a thrill For all your faults I love you still It had to be you Wonderful you It had to be you."

There were a few years during my teens when I thought I had the meanest mother around. And you know what? She was mean. And I was mean. And we were mean to each other.

For 90% of our time together though, my mother was my favorite person to be with. If you ever saw us together I think this song will touch you. If you didn't get to meet my momma; well, I wish that you had.

Linda Dangcil was a wonderfully warm, beautiful, talented, brave, generous, lioness of a woman. I love her so much, and I miss her every single day.
