My Week in a Song for Week #28 of 2015 - HUKILAU - recorded in Kauai on Ginny

My week was truly nourished and humbled by THE HUKILAU SONG by Jack Owens which I have recorded playing my first ukulele. I bought her one year ago at Costco in Kauai and her name is Ginny, as in oriGINal.

Despite practicing this one on Ginny quite a bit in both LA & Lihue, I still have difficulty transitioning from a G chord to a G#dim. Since this weekly project has taught me it feels better to be timely than perfect, I am releasing it and moving on.

My Hukilau song is dedicated to the Von and Los Baños families. These two families truly introduced me to Hawaii, treated me like I was a much loved blood relation and taught me the meaning of Aloha. Mahalo.

Mahalo also to my Hawaiian born stepmother, Linda (Von) Ramos, who made me memorize the Hawaii State motto when I was about nine. I had no idea then how much the Hawaiian islands and the state's motto would mean to me all my life. I have never forgotten how to say it and I hope I never do.
